mission statement

The Jewish Venture Mentoring Service (JVMS), a Massachusetts nonprofit, provides free support and mentoring services to Boston area entrepreneurs. Our free program exemplifies the Jewish tradition of tzedakah by giving our mentors' time and skills to those pursuing exciting new opportunities. JVMS believes that by encouraging entrepreneurship and providing needed services to entrepreneurs, these individuals will ultimately give back to the Jewish community which fosters their growth and development.

history

Jewish Venture Mentoring Service (JVMS) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization based in Brookline, Massachusetts.

JVMS founder, Rony Shapiro, recognized the community's need for new venture mentoring services after learning about MIT’s successful Venture Mentoring Service (VMS) program open only to MIT affiliated individuals. In order to develop a community-based independent mentoring program, Rony and several others completed an intensive three-day MIT VMS training course in 2013. Rony then created JVMS, along with four founding board advisors. JVMS soon began accepting venture applications for its free mentoring services. Cognition Medical, a Cambridge medical device company improving outcomes for people who have suffered a stroke, was the first company to be mentored.

JVMS held its first showcase event in May, 2014, with eight ventures presenting their stories to 50 of the community’s most successful entrepreneurs and business executives. Later that year, JVMS opened Koshare, a co-working space for ventures, in Congregation Kehillath Israel temple in Brookline, MA. With over 100 mentors in our database, JVMS continues to address each individual entrepreneur’s challenges by matching ventures with the appropriate volunteer business professionals.
